Chromodoris conchyliata is recognisable according to following characteristics :
- the body is greyish or bluish, looking like the phyllidiid's one : with white tubercles and black bands between the tubercles clusters
- the gills and the rhinophores are red or orangey
For a long time C. conchyliata has been considered as a colour form of C. geometrica, then it was described as a new species from Sri Lanka.
Thus, Chromodoris conchyliata could be mistaken for Chromodoris geometrica. They are distinguished according to the gills and rhinophores colour : they are red in C. conchyliata and they are green in C. geometrica.
Also, Chromodoris conchyliata is similar to Chromodoris hintuanensis. But C. hintuanensis has some of the mantle tubercles outlined with black or dark red ring.
