Chromodoris luteopunctata has following characteristics :
- a purple mantle with yellow border and small irregular yellow spots (tiny in the centre and a little larger on the mantle margin)
- the rhinophores and gills are purple with white dots
Chromodoris luteopunctata looks very similar to Chromodoris luteorosea. These 2 species can be distinguished according to their spots :
- the spots are much larger in C. luteorosea than in C. luteopunctata
- in C. luteorosea the spots are encircled with white ring
Bill Rudman suggests that they could be just one variable species.
Chromodoris rodomaculata is considered as synonym of this species.
