Dendrodoris senegalensis can grow to 8cm in size and it has following characteristics :
- the mantle colour can be white, yellow, orange, brown or grey
- the mantle is covered in numerous red, brown and green spots
- the mantle edge is wide and wavy
- the rhinophores and gills have the same colour than the body and they are tipped with white
The juveniles are uniformly red.

Dendrodoris senegalensis can be mistaken for D. angolensis. They can be distinguished according to their rhinophores : D. senegalensis has white tips, while D. angolensis has red tips.

Also, Dendrodoris senegalensis can be mistaken for D. guineana. They can be distinguished by the complete lack of red pigmentation in D. guineana.
