Hypselodoris picta tema is a subspecies of Hypselodoris picta. Its main characteristics are :
- a large size
- the blue body with often broken longitudinal yellowish orange lines :

• one central line running across the gills
• one line on each side of the median line, running across the rhinophores
• other secondary strips

- the rhinophores are uniformly blue with a yellow ring on the base
- the gills are blue with a yellowish orange line on the internal and external side of each gill
